Reflecting on 2024 feels like opening a book filled with chapters of growth, challenge, and transformation. This year has been a journey—one that has shaped me as a leader, actress, wife, and individual. I wanted to take a moment to share the highlights, lessons, and personal milestones that have defined this year for me.
Stepping into Leadership with The Michael’s Daughter Foundation

Leading The Michael’s Daughter Foundation (MDF) has been one of the most rewarding yet humbling experiences of my life. In 2024, we expanded our partnerships and brought the Our Stories program to five new sites! We secured more grants and funding, which means more resources for the youth we serve. Witnessing the growth of MDF has been a dream come true.
But leadership isn’t without its trials. This year, I faced tough moments managing people and discerning when to let go. There were uncomfortable conversations with staff who were not aligned with the values of MDF. When I founded the organization, my goal was to create a vibrant, creative space not just for youth but for the incredible artists and professionals who work with us. Over time, I realized I was giving too much, often bending over backward to please people who ultimately did not have the company or the youth’s best interests at heart. Betrayal, dishonesty, and disrespect hurt deeply, but they taught me invaluable lessons about boundaries and leadership.
Leadership isn’t about being everyone’s friend; it’s about selecting the right people, establishing clear boundaries, and creating an environment where everyone understands their role. This clarity empowers the team to contribute in meaningful ways. Moving forward, I am committed to fostering a team culture rooted in respect, alignment, and shared purpose.
Acting Career: Embracing Change and New Opportunities

This year, I took a leap of faith and switched to a new team of talent managers and agents. Leaving my previous team, who had supported me for years, was terrifying. I felt guilt, confusion, and fear. But deep down, I knew change was necessary. I trusted that the right team was waiting for me, and eventually, I landed at Artists First and Buchwald. This new chapter has been exciting! I’ve been auditioning for incredible roles and even got callbacks for some major projects. I truly believe 2025 will be filled with exciting bookings and opportunities.
One of the highlights of this year was returning to Atlanta for a project. While I can’t spill the details just yet, it was such a joy to be back in ATL doing what I love!
I also did something really cool—I signed up for the Upshot Reels Monologue recording sessions and performed three monologues (Aileen from Monster, Emma from A Kind Heart, and Carol from Carol). It was so liberating to have some time with director Sebastian Thiel and just let it all rip. I got to really go places and be gently directed by this emerging talented director. It was a wonderful playground, and I can’t wait to do it again! You can see the monologues on my YouTube channel or check out this snippet on my IG.
Love: Our Magical Honeymoon in Bali
Aaron and I finally booked our honeymoon! After eloping last year (a story for another post), we saved up and searched for the perfect getaway. We considered so many places—Tahiti, Curacao, Costa Rica—but nothing felt quite right. As vegans with gluten allergies, finding a location that aligned with our dietary needs and desire for peace and magic was crucial.
One day, Aaron found a video about Fivelements Retreat in Bali. The moment I saw it, I knew that was the place. Our experience at Fivelements was nothing short of transformative. We shared beautiful, healing moments that brought us closer together. You can read more about our trip here.

Lessons Learned: Moving into 2025 with Grace and Trust
As I look ahead to 2025, I am carrying forward some essential lessons:
- Fear is nothing, but trust is everything.
When I left my previous talent team, I was scared, but I chose to lean into trust. I envisioned a future where I had a team that truly understood and believed in me. Trusting in that possibility opened the door to something even better than I imagined. - Leadership is about alignment and grace.
Difficult conversations and parting ways with staff were tough but necessary. I learned that leadership means guiding a team, and sometimes, letting people go with grace and respect. Not everyone is meant to stay, and that’s okay. - Rest is productive.
Our trip to Bali reminded me that unplugging is vital. I realized that my workaholic tendencies stem from fear—fear of not having enough, fear of failure. Through deep conversations with staff at Fivelements, I uncovered the roots of this mindset. I learned that I have the power to choose ease and peace. In 2025, I’m approaching work with relaxation and trust. - Telling my story matters.
For a long time, I struggled with how to share my story. Past experiences with public scrutiny silenced me. But I’m learning to tell my story with honesty and compassion, acknowledging my journey while respecting my family. Kathryn Fraiser encouraged me to open up, even if it means saying, “I’m nervous to share this part because I love my family.” This shift has been empowering. When I spoke at the Our Stories screening this year, I felt real and authentic. You can watch the screening here. - Slow, steady, and intentional wins the race.
I’ve often rushed into projects, but this year taught me the value of patience. Taking my time to refine ideas—like with the Creative You course—has led to better outcomes. I can’t wait to share this course with you all in January!
As 2024 comes to a close, I’m grateful for every experience, challenge, and triumph. Here’s to a new year filled with growth, love, creativity, and trust. Thank you for being part of this journey with me.
With love and gratitude,
Ciera Payton
